May 5-11: Reflecting on Mental Health in Manitoba’s Film Community – Building Strength Through Connection

This week, from May 5 to 11, the Manitoba film community comes together to reflect on our mental health.

Workers in the film and entertainment industry are twice as likely to experience anxiety and depression compared to the general population, according to a review of more than 100 academic studies by Dr. Lucie Clements, commissioned by Equity, and a report by the Film and TV Charity, which also found that 87% of workers in these sectors have experienced a mental health problem (The Guardian, 2022; Lancaster University, 2021).

In a field defined by long hours, high pressure, and constant change, it’s easy to put mental wellness last. Whether you’re supporting a colleague, seeking help yourself, or just beginning to understand your own needs, this week is for you.

The CMHA’s 2025 Mental Health Week theme, “The Strength of Community,” reminds us that we are not alone.

Let’s build a Manitoba film industry where no one struggles in silence—where compassion speaks louder than stigma, and connection is stronger than isolation.

Because together, we heal.
And when we heal, we create.
