Permittee
To join IATSE local 856 all applicants must have the required skills and certificates for their department of choice. If you are new to the industry, it’s recommended to research the area you are interested in.

Please complete the Permittee Application Package, along with a qualification form for the department you are applying to and return everything to the union office.

Permittee Application
In order for your application to be reviewed by the department applying into, it must be completed in full. IATSE 856 gives you 6 months to submit all requirements into the office, at which point your application will be rejected.
EACH PERMITTEE APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- A completed Permittee Application form
- Current resume
- All documents specified by the Department being applied to
- $50.00 processing fee (non-refundable)
- WHMIS
- IATSE 856 Intro Course: Ready, Set, Go
- A photocopy of your Driver’s License or official government photo ID
The application will then be processed and put before the Department applied into. You can send updated information at any time (i.e.: new certificates, updated resume, etc.).
It is important to note that the attached application is an application for Permittee Status not an application for Membership. Permittees must acquire 60+ days in a department and meet department requirements to become eligible for Membership. Permittees and Applicant-Permittees are called upon to fill a vacancy when no Members are available. Calls can be sporadic, however, it is your responsibility to put yourself on Day call weekly in order to better your chances of getting calls. It is important permittees pay careful attention to Availability & Dispatch.
