WHMIS
A “Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System” course, otherwise known as WHMIS, is a requirement to join Local 856. We will only accept certificates that have not expired. If you took WHMIS as part of a post-secondary program, the institution may be able to issue a certificate if you do not have one already.
The courses listed below are WHMIS providers that Local 856 has approved and will accept certificates for:
SafeWork Manitoba Training Portal
This course is free via the SAFE Work Manitoba Training Portal. Access this version of WHMIS by clicking here!
Step 1: Select ELearning. Enter WHMIS under Program Name.
Step 2: Select WHMIS 2015 for Manitoba Workers.
Step 3: Choose “this training is for me”
Step 4: Create your account (or log in to an existing account). Once your account is verified, you will have access to WHMIS.

First Aid
Basic Emergency First Aid is a requirement for membership in IATSE 856, and Intermediate Standard First Aid is a requirement for many departments.
Note: Any First Aid courses hosted entirely online will not be accepted.

Once a month, IATSE 856 offers the Collective Agreement Course for both permittees and members.
