Leaving Active Membership
Honorable Withdrawal
Members who are thinking of taking a hiatus from working with IATSE Local 856, but may return in the future are encouraged to take an Honorable Withdrawal. This is the most cost-efficient way to return to the Local.
MEMBERS WISHING TO TAKE AN HONORABLE WITHDRAWAL
- Must be currently paid up with dues.
- Must submit the request in writing to the Operations manager.
RETURNING FROM AN HONORABLE WITHDRAWAL
- Must submit a request that you wish to reinstate to the Operations Manager.
- Must pay the current cost of stamps to the International up to a maximum of eight quarters, plus the current quarterly dues to IATSE Local 856.
- Membership paperwork is redone, and re-enrollment to the Health & Welfare, and RRSP plan is mandatory.
- All positions previously held as a member with IATSE Local 856 are reactivated.
Retirement
Members can retire from the Union once they have reached the age of 65. They must retire from all employment within the jurisdiction of the Alliance.
MEMBERS WISHING TO RETIRE
- Must submit a request that you wish to retire to the Operations Manager.
- Complete the retirement application form.
- Retired members can still attend local Union meetings, and shall have a voice, but no vote.
- Retired dues are $4.50 per quarter, or $18.00 annually, and due at the same time as member dues.
RETURNING FROM RETIREMENT
A retired member who wished to return to employment, may surrender their retired membership card to their local union. And full Union due fees become effective for the Quarter they return to work.
Expulsion
Members who fall more than 2 Quarters behind in dues payments ($250+) end up on the expulsion list. Failure to pay results in expulsion from the union. All benefits are terminated immediately.
RETURNING FROM EXPULSION
- Must submit a request that you wish to reinstate to the Operations Manager.
- Pay all past owing money, plus the current Quarterly dues to IATSE Local 856.
- Pay the $600 reinstatement fee.
- Membership paperwork is redone, and re-enrollment to the Health & Welfare, and RRSP plan is mandatory.
