Training
Trainee Program
The IATSE 856 Trainee Program is designed to support a permittee’s career in the film industry, and was established in response to the need for quality mentorship for new, inexperienced technicians.
Working alongside union members, trainees receive practical on-set instruction and opportunities to network with the members who might hire them in the future. Trainees work under key crew who are responsible for running their departments, and they provide guidance and leadership to the trainee.
At the end of their placement, trainees will have connected with other crew, learned practical experience and have references for their resume.
HOW IT WORKS
An IATSE Local 856 Trainee is an entry-level position for prospective technicians interested in positions represented by the Union. The Program provides an opportunity for guided learning with experienced Local 856 mentors.
A trainee is placed for a specified period of time (typically 2 – 6 weeks), in a specified department and is paid at a trainee rate. An IATSE Local 856 Trainee works under the conditions and protections of the IATSE Local 856 Collective Agreement.
Note: Opportunities to place potential trainees are developing and highly seasonal, so please be patient if applying for a trainee position.
