Training Reimbursement

IATSE 856 Course Reimbursement and Training Support Policy

The IATSE 856 Training Program is open to all members of the local in good standing. The program supports the ongoing professional development of the membership by providing course reimbursements for pre-approved courses, and by supporting the education and training requests of individual members.

All requests for reimbursement and/or support must be submitted to the Training Coordinator for review before going to the Executive Board for approval.

Courses that are pre-approved as a requirement of a department and/or position are not covered prior to membership.

COURSE REIMBURSEMENT

ALL reimbursement requests must have a receipt and proof of attendance.

Safety Courses
Fees are covered by IATSE Local 856 at 100% (reimbursed as a dues credit).

These courses promote safe working conditions by providing information, tools, and resources to recognize potential hazards and minimize risks. Safety courses are required/recommended by all departments.

The following is a list of approved safety courses for IATSE Local 856 membership;

  • First Aid
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • WHMIS
  • Introduction to Workplace Safety and Health

Pre-Approved Department Courses
Fees are covered by IATSE Local 856 at 50% (reimbursed as a dues credit).

Courses for members who are certifying or re-certifying in pre-approved department/position specific courses will be covered at 50% (reimbursed as a dues credit).

The following is a list of pre-approved courses for IATSE Local 856 departments/positions:

  • Safe Food Handlers
  • PAL and RPAL (Possession and Acquisition Licence and Restricted Possession and Acquisition License)
  • Aerial & Platform Lift certification
  • Fall Arrest
  • Fireworks Operator certification
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • Skid Steer Operator certification
  • Telehandler certification
  • Chainsaw Safety certificate

TRAINING SUPPORT FOR MEMBERS

For courses under $500 please complete this application form. All requests must be made before the course takes place, and before the Executive Board meets. The EB has final approval on all course requests.

After submitting receipts and proof of course attendance, members will be reimbursed 50% of the course fees as a dues credit.

For requests that are over $500, members must fill out this application form and submit it to the Training Coordinator before the training/education takes place, and before the Executive Board meets. The EB has final approval on all course requests.
