Launching this fall, the new Ready, Set, Go! An Introduction to IATSE 856, along with WHMIS, will replace Film Training Manitoba’s Set Orientation and Introduction to Paperwork as the only required courses for permittee status. These are in addition to department specific qualifications.
Ready, Set, Go! is based on similar courses that are required by other IATSE locals and will be offered in person once a month – or as demand requires. It will provide incoming permittees with information about the union, the benefits of working in our industry (as well as the challenges), the dos and the don’ts of working on set, a review of relevant paperwork, best practices for safety awareness and more. By offering this course in person, permittees will have the chance to meet office staff, members, and network with each other during these sessions.
IATSE Local 856 represents the specialty artists and technicians who work in film and television production in Manitoba. We are committed to actively participating in the growth and sustainability of the local film industry, and to ensuring our members have the skills and the experience to make our province a premiere film destination. Our members work on everything from major feature films to renowned television series, and are celebrated internationally for their skills and expertise.
We look forward to the launch of this new course, which will create a foundation of excellence and foster future permittees into the union.
